There are Billions and Billions of Videos on YouTube. Some of the top performers on the site earn well over $15 million a year. These are obviously outliers but there is no reason why you shouldn’t tap into the $24 billion dollar market.
It usually takes years of consistently posting content to gain enough of a following to pass their strict criteria to start earning money by putting ads on your videos. Even once you pass that point, enough people have to watch your videos to gain enough money to live off of.
So in this post I am going to give you the details on how to make money with YouTube, so you can separate yourself from those that make money and those that don’t.
YouTube Partner Program
This is going to be your best bet in earning money with YouTube. They have their own Ad program that they run with google AdSense. In order to qualify for this you have to have over 1000 subscribers and over 4000 watch hours in the past year.
Once you qualify, ads will be placed on your videos and every time someone watches you earn a little bit. And when I mean a little bit I mean a very small amount. It takes about 20,000 views on a video to earn $100. So get to creating content and let the money flow.
Sell Products
If your brand has enough influence you can sell merchandise on your channel. This can be from shirts to energy drinks. You would need to create a landing page to actually sell things from your business.
This is what a lot of content creators do in addition to making money from ads on their videos. Creating a Shopify business is also something you can explore as it’s in the realm of selling things online.
Crowd Funding
If you have a big audience on YouTube and they really believe in what you are saying, then you can get them to fund your next project or adventure. This can be putting money in a fund to allow you to purchase equipment, or even pay for travels across the world.
Other direct forms of payment can come from hosting live events, or telling your fans to become channel members. When fans feel like they got something from your content they will then tip you an amount that goes straight to you. Got to love the fans 😉
License your Content
If your content is a very niche video that somehow takes off and everybody wants to use it, then you have yourself a gold mine. When TV news outlets and other organizations use your video on their show or site, they have to pay you a licensing fee. This can bring in a lot of consistent income if you become an expert in something or provide a lot of great content.
You can also list your videos on sites that specialize in licensing them out for other people who are looking for certain things. That way you don’t have to keep answering emails about the same video that went viral.
Become an Influencer
Influencers are who people think of when they think of someone making money on YouTube. This is simply someone who has a lot of Influence online. They can sway their fans to go right or left based on their opinion. This is crucial when you have a couple of million people following you. When you become an influencer make sure you capitalize on it because sometimes they are easy come and easy go.
Sponsored Content
When you become an influencer Brands and companies will reach out to you to create content for their product. They will also pay you a nice amount depending on the size of your reach. This is where a lot of influencers make their money. The catch is you can’t promote everyone’s product because you will start to lose trust from your audience. So only choose high quality products that you would actually use.
Affiliate Marketing
Considered the Holy Grail. Affiliate marketing is what a lot of online money makers do. They basically promote products from companies. When someone buys the product using their link they will earn a commission for the sale. You not only have to be on YouTube for this. You can use it for any social media site as well as blogs.
